Note to Scatter Plot

A scatter diagramis an effective pictorial representation for investigating relationships among variables. It can be effectively employed to investigate the following:

  1. Segmentationsoccurring in the data set
  2. Associationsbetween dependent and independent variables
  3. Predictionsof future performance

When the scatter chart takes the form of a bubble chart, the picture is enriched by use of a third variable. In our example in page Nutshell the segmentationamong products in terms of pack size is quite evident. It also demonstrates the relationship between variables, in that where the price increases the pack size decreases. Using a different data set we can show how to use scatter charts as prediction tools.
