In the Input range select the row labels and the data to be plotted at the same time. To include in the selection column labels as well, check the option Labels in first row. The range of the example is A1:D7 and its content can be seen in the table shown in the section Anatomy of a Stacked Chart.

Select an Output cell on the sheet where you want to print the chart. Selecting multiple cells in output does not have any effect.

The list box Chart type shows three options: Line, Bar, and Area. An example of the three chart outcomes is shown below in the section Anatomy of a Stacked Chart. The default selection is a stacked line chart.

Stacked Chart has the ability to plot on the same chart in a readable manner also data expressed with different scales of measurement, for instance, a column of values referring to sales in value and a column of % changes in market share. Check the box Rescale data when working with data measured with different scales. The trick is in the fact that data are all rescaled to units. To avoid homogenizing the interpretation, check the option Show original values and the original data is plotted on chart.

The frame Chart options hosts controls for refining the chart. The first three text boxes in the frame are used for entering the titles of the chart. Simply type the text you want here, although remember that short labels may be more effective.

The list box Thickness of line is active with stacked line charts only and it is used for plotting thicker or thinner lines. The default selection is medium line.

The check box Gridlines shows horizontal grids. The One color for all series option is used for plotting series on chart without changing color across the series. Finally, the Show Y-axis labels option is used for displaying the labels on the vertical axis.

The help button in the lower left corner of the form opens the MM4XL online Reference Manual, while the Example button opens an Excel sheet with sample data, an example of analysis, and an explanation of how to make field selections.

Click on the OK button once you have made your selection and the chart is made for you.
